Multilingual Video Training for Social Workers – Case Study

How We Helped an NGO Equip Social Workers with Critical Skills: Multilingual Training on Handling Child Harassment Cases

In the humanitarian and child protection sector, few challenges are as sensitive and critical as training social workers to properly handle cases of sexual harassment involving minors. One leading NGO, working across multiple countries, recognized the need to equip its case workers with the knowledge, tools, and emotional intelligence to manage these complex situations with care and professionalism.

To address this, the NGO partnered with LearnKhana to produce a series of animated training videos—narrated in Arabic, English, French, and Ukrainian—that would guide case workers through real-world scenarios and provide practical strategies for response.

The Challenge: Sensitive Topics, Diverse Teams, and Multilingual Delivery

The training needed to address several key requirements:

  • Sensitive Subject Matter: The content involved sexual harassment cases involving minors, requiring extreme care in how it was presented.
  • Diverse Audiences: The NGO’s teams included case workers and social workers across multiple regions, necessitating multilingual training.
  • Consistency Across Regions: The training had to maintain a unified standard of messaging and professional conduct, regardless of location.
  • Engaging and Non-Traumatic: The format had to avoid retraumatization while still preparing case workers to respond effectively in real-life scenarios.

The Solution: A Multilingual Animated Video Series

LearnKhana was tasked with transforming a set of predefined case scenarios—each addressing different situations of child sexual harassment—into a compelling animated video format suitable for training.

Using these scenarios provided by the NGO, we:

  • Scripted, designed, and produced a series of animated training videos that reflected real-world field challenges.
  • Selected animation as the medium to ensure emotional safety, clear communication, and broad accessibility.
  • Ensured that each situation was depicted with sensitivity and cultural awareness to protect the dignity of the topic and the learners.

Each video was:

  • Professionally narrated in Arabic, English, French, and Ukrainian.
  • Produced to be visually engaging and emotionally respectful, avoiding any distressing depictions while still conveying the seriousness of each situation.
  • Designed to simulate real-life decision-making and appropriate response strategies, helping social workers apply best practices.

Results: Training That Builds Trust and Confidence

The final training package enabled the NGO to:

  • Roll out standardized onboarding and development programs for social workers across multiple countries.
  • Increase engagement and retention of critical information through storytelling and visuals.
  • Deliver training that was culturally and emotionally appropriate, making it easier for teams to digest and apply.
  • Build confidence among social workers in managing highly sensitive cases with professionalism and empathy.

Why This Approach Works

  • Animation protects emotional safety: Instead of using real footage, the animated style distanced the learner just enough to ensure comprehension without discomfort.
  • Multilingual narration ensures inclusivity: By offering voiceovers in four languages, we helped ensure accessibility regardless of the worker’s background.
  • Real-world application through scenarios: These weren’t theoretical models—the videos were based on actual challenges that case workers encounter, making them highly relevant and impactful.
